Raphael Röchter, B.A.

Raphael Röchter is a master student of philosophy at the University of Cologne, working as a research assistant at the Husserl Archives. He achieved his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and media-culture studies (Medienkulturwissenschaften) at University of Cologne and holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz piano from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

In his master project he researches the theory of phenomenological reduction in the late metaphysics of Max Scheler, arguing that Scheler’s discovery of the sphere of vitality and the peculiarity of the phenomena of life plays a key role in understanding the later development of Scheler’s phenomenology into a new metaphysics that remains grounded in phenomenological methodology.

His broader research interests encompass phenomenology, ecophenomenology, contemporary philosophy of mind, philosophy of emotion, epistemology, animal and environmental ethics as well as philosophy of religion.
