Raphael Röchter is a master student of philosophy at the University of Cologne, working as a research assistant at the Husserl Archives. He achieved his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and media-culture studies (Medienkulturwissenschaften) at University of Cologne and holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz piano from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. His research interests encompass phenomenology, ecophenomenology, contemporary philosophy of mind, philosophy of emotion, epistemology, animal and environmental ethics as well as philosophy of religion.
His current research project entitled „Voluntative Realism and Magic Consciousness: Late Scheler and Early Sartre on Resistance and Emotions“ aims to elucidate the relation between two (historically and geographically) distinct representatives of the phenomenological movement – Scheler and Sartre – through the lens of voluntative realism, whereby is understood the view that reality is given to us in the experience of resistance against or inhibition of the intentional life of drive and will. The project aims at drawing out the anthropological implications of both thinkers’ views as well as developing a novel interpretation of Sartre’s account of emotion on the background of Scheler’s theory of the phenomenological reduction.
